Traveling to from Miami to Key West

Using a charter boat Miami to Key West, you will definitely need to learn a few about the island geography. Florida Keys has two sides – the bay side and the ocean side. If you are traveling to Key West, you will most likely use the ocean side and take a well marked channel called Hawk's Channel.

The bay side is very shallow and is not recommended for boat traveling if the keel draft is greater than 5 feet. The ocean side is rougher and the bay side is very calm and without waves, but boats with the keel draft greater than 5 feet cannot enter the bay.
